Indiana visits top-ranked Lindenwood this weekend

2011-02-01

The Hoosiers will travel to St. Louis to play the nation’s top team.

IU (8-20-0-2, 2-12-0-2) met #1 Lindenwood (24-2-0-0, 13-1-0-0) earlier this season when the Lions swept a pair of games in Bloomington in mid-October. In the series, the Hoosiers were only able to score a single a goal and were outscored 15-1.

This weekend will mark the final conference series of the season for IU and the end of a six-game road trip spanning three weeks. The Hoosiers come in after suffering four straight losses to conference opponents #10 Robert Morris (IL) and #3 Ohio.

Lindenwood will also be the fifth straight ranked opponent IU will face (#16 Central Oklahoma and #19 Kent State), with the Hoosiers managing only one win against the Golden Flashes.

The Lions, however, come in after sweeping Ohio, who sits at third in both the national rankings and the CSCHL standings. Lindenwood has only been beaten twice all season, and hasn’t lost since a January 8 game against Illinois.

Lindenwood is lead in both goals and points by senior forward Cory Spradling (30-26-56). The team’s second leading scorer, sophomore Grant Gorczyca (19-34-53), will miss the series while in Turkey with the team USA at the World University Games. But the scoring does not drop off much with junior Bret Morrell in third with seven goals and 33 assists.

In net senior Robi Cavallari has been dominant, posting a 15-1 record with a 2.14 goals against average in 21 games played.

For the Hoosiers, senior KC Madock (15-19-34) has been in the scoring lead all season and is trailed by Chris Benz (14-12-26)

Both games this weekend will be played at Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo. Friday’s game will start at 7:30pm, while Saturday’s contest will begin at 4pm.
