IU and Miami (OH) tie both, Hoosiers come short in extra frames

2012-01-15

IU Hockey Hoosiers (10-13-2) pulled off two undecided match-ups against the neighboring rivals, U of Miami Ohio (Fri 2-2, Sat 5-5), but came short in both extra frames this weekend.

IU Hockey Team battled at an even pace with the University of Miami (OH) rival this weekend, as both games ended at even score at the end of regulation.

In the first game, the score was 2-1 for Miami since midway through the first until three minutes left in regulation, when freshman forward Tommy Washburn fired a top corner laser to tie the game after the 60 minutes of play. Hoosiers came up short in that one, after few scoring chances left to waste and a mental mistake with less than two minutes left in extra frame.

The second game was quite even again, and the teams started the third tied at two. The third period brought bunch of offense, and both teams seemed to forget about their defensive responsibilities, when the total of 6 goals were evenly shared by both sides. The result was yet another tie 5-5 after the regulation. Hoosiers weren't again able to put the game away in over-time after the numerous chances were not transformed into a goal. Miami took the advantage of the shootout, and Hoosiers had to finish the weekend satisfied with only points from both regulation ties.

The next series will be played at home, although Friday's game will be played in Indianapolis downtown (8:00pm), at the Indiana World Skating Academy (IWSA), located at Pan Am Plaza. The University of Michigan-Dearborn, this weekend's guest, will then face off against the hosting Hoosiers again on Saturday, January 21, at 2:30pm in Bloomington.
