After being routed by UMD earlier this season, the Hoosiers (11-13-2) returned the favor on Friday night with a convincing 6-1 win.
Indiana buried chances early, putting up two goals in the first to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Erik Skjodt converted a deke alone in front of the UMD net halfway through the period to put the Hoosiers up one. Tommy Washburn put back a rebound on the power-play two minutes later for the second IU goal.
The Wolves came back with a goal of their own off of a turnover in the IU zone less than a minute into the second. But after a Dearborn wrap-around that just barely stayed out of the net, Indiana extended its lead on Erik Skjodt’s second of the game. Dan Emanuel added to the lead later in the period, putting the Hoosiers up 4-1 going into the third.
The final frame saw several scrums after the whistle, with punches thrown by both sides. Dearborn wasn’t able to mount much of an offensive threat, though, and goals by Alex Santostefano and Dakota Hooker sealed the victory for IU.
The two teams will meet tomorrow in Bloomington at 2:30pm. The Hoosiers will celebrate Senior Day at “the Frank” prior to puck drop.
