Jan Jas comes to Indiana University Hockey Team for his third year of coaching after an 11-year professional career as a player. 

During the previous 2011/12 hockey season, Jas guided the team to an improved record of 11-19-2, with significant victories coming against the highly ranked University of Ohio, Iowa State, and Kent State.

In his first year with the team, Jas posted a record of 10-22-2 and a playoff loss to Iowa State University. The first season behind the bench also happened to be Team's first full season at a Division 1 level of the ACHA , in which Jas took over the Division 2 roster with the goal of rebuilding process to become a contender at the highest level of the ACHA.

 During his playing years, Jas was a member of various minor professional leagues in the United States (the ECHL, CHL, UHL, and IHL) and Europe (the Italian Elite League, Austrian National League, Slovak Extraleague, and Polish Elite League). 

Jas was a member of the 1999-2000 Indianapolis Ice, the Central Hockey League's champions, where as a forward was among the league's statistical leaders during the team's playoff run.  His success earned him an invite to the NHL's Ottawa Senators' 2000 training camp, where he scored a goal during one of the prospects' games against the Florida Panthers.  Jas was also named a team MVP twice, by the Roanoke Valley Vipers (2005-2006) and the Flint Generals (2006-2007), both of the UHL. Jas also holds the status of being one of the youngest players ever to play professionally at an elite level in Slovakia, when he broke into the lineup in the Slovak Extraliga during the 1994/95 hockey season as a 16 year old. Throughout the summer months of the playing career, Jan worked with many youth developmental programs and camps and also used his wealth of experience with the 2010/2011 Indiana Ice of the USHL, as their "Skills Coach".
 
Prior to his professional hockey career, Jas played junior hockey in Canada, from 1995 to 1998, in Manitoba and Alberta.
 
A native of Presov, Slovakia, Jas was also a member of Slovak National Teams U-16 and U-17, before departing for junior hockey in Canada.

Jas, 34, and his wife, Theresa, reside in Noblesville (IN), along with their son, Marek.
